“A first record that is nothing short of stunning, those with an ear for classical sounds, choral music, Latin-American ideas, and avant-garde moments will find much to adore here.” — Take Effect Reviews
“I found the whole CD quite energising and loved the blending of the now well-known Misa Criolla (-Ramirez) with Mary Lou Williams’ St Martin de Porres, two pieces by Osvaldo Golijov and the no-holds barred Fiesta de San Juan by Beatriz Bilbao which opens the CD.” —Lark Reviews
“The centerpiece is a complete performance of the famous Misa criolla (1964) by Argentine composer Ariel Ramírez… Here I felt that the piece had found a quiet, respectful home in a small church or perhaps a university chapel, with tenor Matthew Valverde singing sweetly and steadily (no grand-opera wobble). Mexican-born pianist Ahmed Anzaldúa (one side of his family is from Egypt) and Bolivian-born guitarist Gabriel Blondel bring a vivifying lilt to the instrumental interludes in this ever-engaging work.” — Ralph P. Locke, The Arts Fuse
“This album crosses national and ethnic borders with an immediate appeal, supported by energizing rhythms and vivid vocal timbres. More than that, … it expresses a vivid, sometimes painful, eloquence arising from that experience. It is music embodying the need for transcendence, reaching out across cultural borders… All these works combine rich, persuasive choral sounds and vocal solos that either leap out with an urgency to be heard or appeal with to you with soft persuasion. The percussive backdrop from a variety of instruments, including … hand-struck drums with a sound like soft heartbeats, add to a rich and compelling mix, reaching out, as I’ve said, well beyond cultural borders.” — Atlanta Audio Club
“A great attention to detail can be heard throughout these recordings. Border CrosSing is more of a chamber choir which allows them to create a fine sense of intimacy for some of these pieces. This also allows for the harmonic and rhythmic articulation that makes the for engaging listening… Instrumental performances are equally cued in to the style of these different works and the variety of accompaniment requirements lends a freshness that engages throughout. All of it is captured in excellent sound. A Miracle of Faith is an important release of Latin American choral music not to be missed.” — Stephen A. Kennedy, “Music with a Mission”
“…it is an ideal time to release A Miracle of Faith on Bridge Records. The primary artists being Border CrosSing’s instrumental and choral components and a few soloists, all led by the capable hands of Ahmed Anzaldúa. The five works from four different composers have much to say and hear about faith, hope and charity…” — S. James Wegg, “Hearing is Believing”
